WBA strap between Vanes Matirosyan and Erislandy Lara this Saturday night in Las Vegas NevadaThis Saturday night boxing takes center stage here in Las Vegas where three junior middleweight world titles will be up for grabs. Most of the attention will be centered on the rematch for the WBA strap between Vanes Matirosyan and Erislandy Lara, and also the bout for IBF gold featuring Jermall Charlo against Austin Trout.

As a boxing fan I am personally looking forward to watching both fights and oddsmakers have installed Lara and Charlo as heavy favorites to exit the ring with the WBA and IBF belts and their piece of the junior middleweight crown.

But as a boxing fan, it’s the scrap for the WBC title which peaks my interest most and I will undoubtedly be backing my opinion up with my cash. In fact, as soon as book makers put up a line for the fight between Jermell Charlo (27-0, 12 KO’s) and John Jackson (20-2, 15 KO’s), I wasted no time in taking a position.

Many will remember this championship belt was won by Floyd Mayweather Jr. when he beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez back in 2014, but with “Money” retiring the WBC will now award either Charlo or Jackson with it.

Currently Charlo is listed as high as a -800 favorite with the take back on Jackson +500, which reflects a drop in price from the opener of -1100. Simply put, I believe there was a lot of value on Jackson when it opened, and I still do now at +500.

Charlo has excellent hand speed and is also very quick for the 154 lb division. His boxing skills are what have gotten him to this point in his career and at only 25 years of age, he could get even craftier with more experience. Jermell hasn’t been as dominating and exciting to watch as Jermall, nor does he possess his brother’s power. What he does have is an efficient jab which he likes to work behind and set up the straight right. He puts his combinations together well but he lacks the aggression needed to be a finisher, which is why he has only 12 knockouts in his 27 professional fights.

Jackson comes in having won 5 of his last 6 bouts and more importantly has six knockouts in his past 10 fights. This “live dog” should be able to endure and possibly even catch him late with one of those fight ending punches. PICK: John Jackson +500
