The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission will vote this week on whether to award a third racing meeting to Churchill Downs Inc. (CHDN). The dates traditionally are raced by Turfway Park in northern Kentucky.
Last week, a panel of state racing regulators recommended the racing dates be awarded to Churchill Downs, thus providing the track with a spring, summer and fall racing schedule.
“It gives us something new and innovative to do,” said Churchill Downs president Kevin Flanery.
It was believed weather conditions in the southern part of the state would be more beneficial to a successful racing meet.
