College football got just a little crazier last week and the reason why is emotion.
Ohio State was coming off a humiliating loss the previous week vs. Iowa and not catching Michigan State who were coming off an emotional win vs. Penn State the previous week. We would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the Buckeye locker room last week before the game. Ohio State 48, Michigan State 3 was the final.
Now moving on to Iowa who really blasted Ohio State the previous week and now had to go on the road to Madison and take on the undefeated Badgers. Well, no way they could get up for this game. Final score: Wisconsin 38, Iowa 14.
Now we will see how deep emotion can go as undefeated Georgia traveled to Auburn to take on the Tigers, who they beat the previous year 13-7 in Athens. Ya think Auburn was up for this game? Final score: Auburn 40, Georgia 17.
One thing this bettor dislikes about the SEC is this week, the 11th of a 12-game season that features Auburn playing UL-Monroe, Alabama taking on Mercer. In the ACC, Clemson will play Western Carolina, three gimmie games. This late in the season we believe these teams should be playing within their conferences.
Clemson will win their last two games and go 11-1 for the season with their only loss coming somehow at Syracuse, 27-24. How was that possible? Because they lost their No. 1 QB in the first quarter. Still, they will be in the final four unless they lose to Miami in the ACC championship game.
The big game in the SEC will be played on Nov. 25 when Alabama travels to play Auburn, a game we say if the Tigers win they could get in the final four even with losses to Clemson 14-6 on the road and LSU 27-23 on the road if they beat East division champ Georgia.
Another huge emotion game last week came in Starkville as the Mississippi State Bulldogs took Alabama to the limit, losing late 31-24.
Miami-Florida, who just put it to the Irish 41-8, stays undefeated but otherwise haven’t really beat anyone with wins coming against Bethune-Cookman, Toledo, Duke, 25-24 vs. Georgia Tech, Syracuse, 24-19 vs. North Carolina and Virginia Tech. They finish up with Virginia and Pitt, two teams they should beat. The Canes would be a bet-against team should they make the final four.
One of the biggest turnarounds in college football has been Central Florida, which only two years ago went 0-12. Last year they got a new head coach in offensive minded Scott Frost, who was the offensive coordinator at Oregon when they were putting huge numbers on the board. Frost has really turned it around in Orlando and with wins in his last two games vs. Temple and South Florida the Knights will have an undefeated season.
I never thanked our Veterans last week and we will give them a bigtime high five and much thanks for all the freedoms they have given this country and the respect they have for our flag and National Anthem.
There are two sides to every coin but at one time I did own a two-headed one. Roger “the dodger” Goodell, who runs the non-profit organization called the National F League, has a new contract coming up. At this point he gets a cool $30 million a year and wants it increased to 49.5 million a year. He also wants a ton of perks with one being he has free access to a jet for life. I really won’t say anymore as I can only get fired from my not so $50 million a year job. You decide and email me and we will see if we can print any responses.
Not many emotional games this week as we try and keep making a late surge looking for winners building on our 5-2 record last weekend.

Texas +3 at West Virginia: Just a huge game for the Longhorns who are looking for a bowl bid and need to win their last two games, starting with this big revenge game vs. WVU who beat the Horns in Austin last year, 24-20. The Texas defense will come to play here and we note the Mountaineers have won their last two games without scoring a point in the second half of either game. TEXAS
