Saratoga Race 7
Sunday at The Spa has an interesting ten race card. I’ll continue to stray from two year old maiden races (no experience, it’s tote board watching) and turf sprints (positioning leaving the gate makes or breaks). No. 3 Cross Border is my top contender for win honors. Since arriving at trainer Michael Maker’s barn, he’s had two nice races including a win at Saratoga. His sheet pattern is consistent. And his breeding suits the extra distance today with Empire Maker as the broodmare sire. No. 10 Irish Valor is an intriguing horse who should be quite an attractive price. He’s moving to grass for the first time. He’s 16 for 23 lifetime in the money, can run this distance, has quite formidable speed figures, and gets the best jockey on the grounds. No. 6 Southern King looks to be a contender despite never having run on grass. His pop, Animal Kingdom went from Derby winner to a grass-running beast. Trainer Todd Pletcher has good stats with this scenario.
