Saber’s Santa Anita analysis for Saturday
Race 1
Allowance runners travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 5 Lane Way was last seen running in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar and now is back where he belongs. No. 1 Rip City has ripped off four straight wins at this mile distance on the grass and two of those wins came right here at Santa Anita. No. 2 Gregdar had a big last work for this race on the 3rd. 5-1-2
Race 2
California-bred $20K optional fillies and mares go six furlongs. No. 2 No Cover Charge fits here and will fall into a good stalking position. No. 4 Cheap Cheap Cheap has good early speed and a nice last work for this race. No. 6 Anna Fantastic missed by a head at this level and distance here last out. 2-4-6
Race 3
California-bred maiden fillies and mares travel a flat mile on the grass. We will take our shot here in the Pick Five and single No. 7 Rose’s Crystal who missed by a neck here one race back and looks to have found a group she can beat. 7**
Race 4
$20K maiden fillies and mares go six furlongs. No. 3 Jan Jan Can looks tough today with the move to this level. No. 5 Gemma Royal drops back to the distance of her second-place finish. No. 7 Wicks and Chappies also drops into a live spot. No. 12 Sweet Sonny looks the speed carrying the light weight. 3-5-7-12
Race 5
$25K fillies and mares travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Zucchera just missed the last time she raced at this level and distance. No. 4 Cover Version finds a good spot on the drop. 1-4
Race 6
California-bred $50K maiden 3-year-olds go 6 1/2 furlongs. No. 7 Theluteismine takes the blinkers off and gets Lasix on the class drop in what is a go spot. No. 12 Ben’s a Goalie ran a nice even race first out going 5 1/2 furlongs and will appreciate the extra furlong today. 7**-12
Race 7
Maiden 3-year-olds travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 3 Endless Sunset was a good second at this distance on the grass at Del Mar in his previous race. No. 6 Airman had a big last work for this race and exits a productive race. No. 7 North Pole takes the blinkers off and moves to the turf. 3-6-7
Race 8
The $200K Grade 2 La Canada for fillies and mares traveling 1 1/16 miles. No. 2 Hard Not to Love has won five times here with three seconds and a third from here nine races. No. 3 Fighting Mad is the speed and won the Grade 2 Santa Maria here at this distance. No. 4 Message also owns good early speed and is the stablemate of Fighting Mad. 2-3-4
Race 9
The $100K Grade 3 Las Cienegas for fillies and mares go six furlongs on the grass. No. 4 Lighthouse has no bad efforts sprinting on the grass and is a must use. No. 6 Oleksandra is one tough cookie and was last seen in the Grade 1 BC turf sprint at Keeneland. No. 7 Jolie Olimpica is 2 for 2 sprinting on the Santa Anita turf, including winning this race last year. 4-6-7
Race 10
$16K claimers go six furlongs. No. 3 Uncaptured Hero gets jockey Ricardo Gonzalez back and looks the speed. No. 4 Great Power broke his maiden here at Santa Anita. No. 5 Astrologer was last seen facing much stronger at Oaklawn Park and now gets jockey Joel Rosario riding. 3-4-5
