Take 953 Chicago Cubs -140 over Pittsburgh Pirates
Cy Young candidate Jake Arrieta leads the Cubs against the Pirates as the two teams continue their four-game series in at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The Cubs (-140) are favored in what is a possible preview of the National League Wild Card game. The total is 7. Arrieta (19-6, 1.99 ERA) who is seeking to become the Cubs’ first 20-game winner since Jon Lieber in 2001, will face AJ Burnett (8-5, 3.14 ERA).
Arrieta has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season. He had never won more than 10 games in a season, but has won eight straight starts since the beginning of August. During that stretch Arrieta has an ERA of 0.46 and is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning (57 in 58.1 innings). The right-hander is 5-1 with a 2.05 ERA in seven career starts against the Pirates, including a 3-0 mark and 2.63 ERA in four outings at PNC Park. He began his latest streak with a two hit shutout of the Bucs on Aug. 4.
Burnett will be making his second start since returning from the disabled list. He worked five innings and allowed three runs in a no decision vs. the Brewers on Thursday. Burnett has made two starts against the Cubs this season, going 1-0 while allowing one run over 13 innings and is 8-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 15 career meetings against Chicago.
Six of the 14 matchups this season have been one-run games, including both on Tuesday.
