MLB ready to join conversation on changing sports gambling regulation

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, in appearance on ESPN radio this week said MLB is in the educational stages of talking to its owners about getting ready to join the conversation concerning changing sports gambling regulation in the United States.

His words come as Las Vegas readies to welcome the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, an expansion team, later this year and the NFL’s Oakland Raiders as soon as 2020.

Now the heads of all four major U.S. sports leagues, the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL are all on record with recent comments that could indicate a softening of opposition to national sports wagering.

Nevada currently is the only state where legal and regulated sports bets can be made on an individual teams or propositions. Extremely limited forms of sports betting are legal in Oregon, Delaware and Montana.
