Call phase one of the Bryce Harper resurrection a success – at least for openers.
Washington manager Davey Martinez rightly had to make some changes to try and exorcise the demons that dropped Harper’s batting average to .208 and the Nationals’ betting losses to over $1300 at home this season per $100 bet.
Well full disclosure tells us that Martinez could give a hoot about the gambling connection. His concern was Harper’s offensive meltdown that was resulting in less walks, fewer hits (a recent 2-for-32 slump), and a growing frustration at seeing good pitches to hit.
