It’s great to be casino/restaurant mogul Tilman Fertitta and it just got better with the announcement that Fertitta, 60, has reached agreement to purchase the NBA’s Houston Rockets from Leslie Alexander for $2.2 billion.
The price is an NBA record.
Fertitta owns Golden Nugget Casinos and Landry’s, the Texas-based restaurant and entertainment company which includes Landry’s Seafood, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and other well-known brands.
The Golden Nugget Casino brand features properties in downtown Las Vegas and Laughlin. Fertitta is the chairman and CEO.
NBA future-book wagering at his Nevada properties is continuing until the purchase becomes official, reports local media. He’s a cousin of Las Vegas casino owners and entrepreneurs, Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, III.
In 2004, the Houston-based Fertitta was elected to the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
