But tough MWC games this week

Hello UNLV, and welcome back to the Top-25!

Following their loss to Utah a few weeks ago, it looked like maybe the Rebels weren’t the team we had hoped they were, but after their thrashing of then No. 12 BYU Saturday at the Thomas and Mack center, I think we can all say the Rebels are who we thought they were.

The Rebels were a short 1½-point favorite against BYU and put on an awesome display of marksmanship with a barrage of raining three-point shots that had the Cougars by the throat before they even took off their warm-ups.

Five straight wins led by Tre’Von Willis, who has taken control of this team, put them on his back and is the one who has stepped up to be the leader.

Give credit to Head Coach Lon Kruger for instilling a belief and confidence in his team which is what half of coaching is all about.

It doesn’t get any easier for UNLV (19-4) this week as they play the Mountain West’s best teams, starting with a home game Wednesday against New Mexico and then a road game at San Diego State.

Should the Rebels win those two, they can seal their deal and expect an invitation to the NCAA tournament regardless of what happens to them the rest of the way.

Game of the Week

Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2009

No. 10 Michigan State (19-5) was climbing up in the polls and then they ran into trouble losing to Wisconsin and Illinois. Coming up next for the Spartans is a home game against No. 6 Purdue (19-3) which is the Big-10 game of the year. After losing three games a few weeks ago, Purdue has bounced back nicely with five straight wins. Look for a close game with Michigan State pulling out in the end thanks to a big boost from the crowd.
