Judging on how good the Mountain West is in men’s basketball, Utah, BYU and TCU would have been better off sticking around.

Boise State and San Diego State had second thoughts about jumping to the Big East and have a lot to do with the overall strength of the league. In fact, six of the nine league members have a winning percentage of .812 or above.

New Mexico, UNLV and San Diego State figured to be the top teams, but it’s Boise State, Colorado State and Wyoming who have given the MWC a quality middle. Plus Air Force and Nevada are each over .500 with only Fresno State the weak link. And at 7-9 the Bulldogs aren’t all that bad.

Nevada did make our Dirty Dozen poll at No. 11 due to a 4-10-1 against the spread mark as opposed to a 9-7 overall mark as of midweek.

It’s quite possible the Mountain West could land six in the NCAA tournament, which would be a landmark achievement for a conference that ranks No. 3 in the nation in quality.

Last weekend we went 3-2 for an overall mark of 30-9. One other note as far as totals: The Miami Hurricanes are 10-0 to the UNDER in games that made the board.

Appalachian State has the best overall ATS mark at 10-1, but the team we really have our eyes on is Creighton (12-4 ATS, 17-1 overall). The only loss for the Blue Jays – the MWC’s Boise State.

And now for the Dozen.

College Basketball Dirty Dozen 12-to-7
