NCAA Tourney tips: Be selective, look for value

It’s conference college basketball time. This is exciting as teams get primed for the big dance with March Madness.

I am in a very good mood and why not? College basketball presents many opportunities to make money whether you like the side, money line or total – not to mention the first or second half.

I am a dog player so you can imagine how happy I was this past weekend at the UNLV game getting 14½ points taking on Fresno State. As you know, the underdog won the game outright. Thanks to my buddy Bruce Merrin, president of Celebrity Speakers and Entertainment, I had the best seat in the house, 2 rows off the floor.

I did not make any friends because the place was jammed with UNLV fans. Underdogs are often times undervalued. If you get nothing else out of this, please remember I lean on dogs and UNDER. It is not how many you play, it is how many you win.

Before you bet it, make sure you get it.

I am talking about finding value and being highly selective. Gonzaga has won 13 straight games with the UNDER cashing 13-1-1 in its last 15. Iowa State has gone OVER 13 straight and 19-3 overall. Take a look at these trends as you move forward. Timing is everything, knowing when to get on and when to get off.

I had dinner this past week with a sports betting icon, Lem Banker. What a gentleman. He came to Las Vegas in 1958 and was broke. He went on to make millions betting sports professionally. I loved his sense of humor as he shared stories with me about his experience in betting sports for 65 years.

Now 85, Len remains in great shape. I am 48, 6’3 and 270. I am pretty sure he could kick my butt. You can check out my plays at,,

Vegas Video Network is the forum for my TV show The Odds Couple LIVE every Friday at noon with my co host Anthony Padilla. I am doing a “How to make money betting sports” seminar at Harrah’s on the Strip in Las Vegas for Final Four weekend.

I will be joined at the seminar by fellow professional sports bettor Dink featured in the movie Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis as Dink. Your investment is only $99. Mention GamingToday and you can bring a friend for free.

To reserve your seat, call me at 702-808-2844. Bet with your head, not over it. See the cashier.
