Spell defeat S-A-B-A-N after Auburn wins against Alabama

The storylines in college football have been plentiful this year, but Christmas came early this past Saturday.

We saw a slate of college football that was second to none. The miracle kids from Auburn gave Alabama’s Nick Saban his worst defeat as a head coach. How many games has Saban as a head coach lost for his team? You saw one the other night. He was inept, his team looked undisciplined, but the decision-making on more than one level has to be questioned.

Congrats to Coach Gus Malzahn and Auburn for taking it to the champs and winning the Iron Bowl. Then there was Michigan versus Ohio State and Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke going for a two-point conversion when he could and should have kicked the extra point. What’s wrong with tying the game?

Michigan missed and Hoke’s gamble tanked, but good for Ohio State, which hasn’t lost in two years, so congrats to the Buckeyes.

And the other big story is about Duke football. Yeah, I did say Duke football.

Head coach David Cutcliffe deserves coach of the year honors after Duke clinched a trip to the ACC championship. Hey, it’s early December and there’s a couple of more months to go. In my book that’s a good thing.
