When all is said and done, Virginia will end up number 1

Mar 18, 2014 3:00 AM

With the NCAA basketball tournament upon us, I’m ready to get down to business with my selections.

We all painstakingly make our “educated” picks and think we have the answers, but the truth is in two weeks most people’s brackets will be destroyed. This tournament is wide open, but I believe the cream will rise to the top pretty quickly.

In the South bracket Florida is a stud, and as is the case with all the regions, some troublemakers will surface. Florida will make it into the third game and then lose to Virginia Commonwealth, propelling this No. 5 seed to the Final Four.

In the East it’s all about the number 1 seed Virginia in a weak region with not much competition. Michigan State has not had a smooth year, but they are hot right now. Virginia has the best defense in the tourney though, and this 1 seed moves on.

In the West I have the number 1 seed Arizona being upset by Gonzaga. Then Gonzaga will face Creighton in the regional finals and fall victim to the Blue Jays and Doug McDermott. With teams in the touted Midwest like Louisville, Kentucky, Duke and Michigan, Wichita State will stay unbeaten and get to the Final Four.

The final four teams: VCU, Virginia, Wichita State and Creighton; and your winner for the championship is…Virginia.
