Iowa Stat NCAA Football StadiumWeek 1 of the new NCAA football season is in the books and Doc’s Sports Services got a fast start out of the gate with a 2-1 record on our three weekly selections for GamingToday. Doc’s has once again teamed up with GamingToday to give you three of our strongest selections each week.

Over the past 44 years, we have become known for our winning selections for college football and given our deep Wisconsin roots we have also become known for Big Ten football. Doc’s has always believed you should bet on what you know best, and no one in the sports gaming industry has a better insight into Big Ten football than we do.

Looking back at last week’s picks, we missed the boat on Oklahoma State’s tight 24-13 victory against Central Michigan as a heavy 23.5-point road favorite. We nailed Saturday’s pick with West Virginia hammering Georgia Southern 44-0 as a 19-point favorite at home. Doc’s then tipped the scales into the black with the right play on Marshall over Purdue by seven points in the Thundering Herd’s 41-31 win on Sunday.

Last week: 2-1

Season: 2-1

Here are this week’s selections:

Saturday

Take 342 Colorado (-13.5) over Massachusetts: The Buffaloes were listed as 7-point road favorites in their season opener on the road against Hawaii, but they came-up short in a 28-20 loss last Friday night. This should set the stage for a quick rebound as home favorites. The big takeaway from that loss was Colorado’s ability to move the ball on the ground with a team total of 215 rushing yards.

This will be Massachusetts’ season opener after going just 3-9 straight-up in 2014. One of those losses came against Colorado in a tight 41-38 defeat as a 17.5-point home underdog, but do not look for things to stay that close this time around as double-digit underdogs on the road. The prospect for any kind of dramatic turnaround this season is not that high.

Take 356 Iowa State (+4.5) over Iowa: The Cyclones come into this huge in-state battle fresh off last Saturday’s impressive 31-7 victory against Northern Iowa as 13-point home favorites in their season opener. Quarterback Sam Richardson was equally impressive in his season debut with 233 yards passing and two scores while completing 21-of-29 attempts. Last season Iowa State stunned Iowa 20-17 on the road as a 13-point underdog.

Iowa also posted a solid win out of the gate with a 31-14 victory against Illinois State as a 10-point favorite at home. The revenge factor could loom big in this week’s matchup after last year’s loss at home, but the Hawkeyes went just 1-3 against the spread in their last four road games and will be facing an even better Iowa State team than the one they lost to last season.

Take 382 Rutgers (Pick) over Washington State: The Scarlet Knights opened their new season with a 63-13 romp over Norfolk State as heavy 35.5-point home favorites. Josh Hicks had a big day running the ball with 118 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. More importantly for this week’s matchup, Rutgers’ defense completely shut down the Spartans’ rushing offense by holding them to -3 yards. The Scarlet Knights are now 5-2 ATS in their last seven games.

Washington State will try and bounce back from a stunning 24-17 loss to Portland State in its season opener after closing as a heavy 32-point home favorite. The problems could run deep with a Cougars’ team that gave-up 233 yards on the ground. You can only imagine what Rutgers’ running game will be able to do against the WSU defense.
