Our in-house team of expert handicappers want to help you turn your sports betting bankroll into a profitable return on investment and they geared up to for a fast start out of the gate this year.
Here are this week’s selections:
Take Connecticut (+23) over Central Florida: The Huskies only won three games last season straight-up, but were able to cover against the spread in five of their last seven games. There is some major changeover on offense, but Connecticut was able to step up its game on that side of the ball down the stretch including 24 points in last year’s loss to the Knights.
As the unofficial 2017 national champions riding a 13-game SU winning streak, the pressure will be dialed up to back up that claim against a fellow AAC foe. The Huskies have been able to play UFC tough since they both joined this conference. The Knights have the slight 3-2 edge SU over five previous meetings and UConn holds the 3-2 edge ATS in those five contests. The 23-point spread could be just a bit too steep to cover in a Week 1 matchup. UCONN
Take Notre Dame (-1) over Michigan: What should be one of the top matchups in Week 1 should be a defining moment for each of these high-profile programs. The expectation level has been raised rather high for the Fighting Irish coming off last season’s 2-2 SU finish that included losses to Miami (Fla.) and Stanford as slight road favorites. The fact that Notre Dame is 6-2 both SU and ATS in its last eight home games against the Wolverines is an added plus for this pick.
Jim Harbaugh has been the face of Michigan during his tenure as head coach, but a loss could land him on the early hot seat. Coming into the new season ranked No. 14 in the preseason AP Top 25 also dials things up after closing out last season with SU losses to Wisconsin, Ohio State and South Carolina. It is hard to be sold on the Wolverines being as good as advertised this time around given their inability to get past the tougher teams they face. NOTRE DAME
Take BYU (+11.5) over Arizona: The Cougars have lined up a brutal start to the new season with a home game against California followed by a road matchup against Wisconsin in their first three outings. Last year’s overall SU record of 4-9 does not paint a rosy picture for 2018. However, a SU 3-2 finish with a 4-1 mark ATS proved they were headed in the right direction. BYU has enough pieces in place on both sides of the ball to keep things even against what could easily be one of the weaker programs in the Pac-12 this season.
The Wildcats closed out their 2017 campaign with just one SU win in their final five games while going 0-4-1 ATS. The lone victory was against Oregon State as heavy 21-point home favorites. This downward trend could continue with quite a few holes still unfilled on both sides of the ball. Arizona also has to be careful to not look past BYU with a road trip to Houston on the slate for Sept. 8. BYU
