Overs catch fire and melts icy December

Dec 22, 2015 3:00 AM

What a difference a week makes.

I finally caught fire; hopefully some of you still rode the wagon while it was an icecube on wheels. 5-0 last week with a possible 6-0 if Lions-Saints went over, the result wasn’t available at press time.

Hopefully you caught that 42.5 on the Browns-Seahawks game as that made the difference; the total was driven all the way to 46 at some books.

As I mentioned in a previous column, I am a streaky player, so hopefully we can ride it out for a while. I have had some incredible months before. Maybe, just maybe, the Christmas magic will keep my picks rolling.

Last Week: 5-0-0 (1 pending)

Season: 18-21-1

MARMOT BOCA RATON BOWL – Temple-Toledo OVER 49.5: With this being the bowl season, both of these teams should be ready to roll offensively. For Toledo this is the lowest total of the season, hinting Temple will keep the scoring down, but as only a -2.5 favorite it leads me to believe the Owls aren’t going to win this game by just playing defense.

GODADDY BOWL – Bowling Green-Georgia Southern OVER 66: On paper it looks like a great under, 5 of 6 under the total for Georgia Southern and Bowling Green with four in-row under. However Bowling Green will get the ball rolling as the Eagles still have a hangover on defense from the shocking loss to Georgia State.

POPEYES BAHAMAS BOWL – Middle Tennessee-Western Michigan OVER 63: If you remember last year’s wild Bahamas Bowl, this field seems to have some offensive juice. I bet we get another memorable bowl game shootout.

Bears-Buccaneers OVER 46: With their seasons all but over look for Jameis Winston and Jay Cutler to trade touchdown passes in this one. Also Doug Martin for Tampa should have another 100 yard day and I expect him to find the endzone as well.

Jaguars-Saints OVER 51.5: Listen, it’s New Orleans at home vs. Jacksonville. Two quarterbacks throwing the ball well, with below average defenses.

Canadiens-Wild OVER 5: The Habs are struggling in net and will need to be solid in net as Minnesota is starting to find the offense to go with their lockdown defense that had a six straight under run before two games of five or more goals. They do the job here and if the Habs stay in it they will need at least two goals.

#FANTASY5 HEAD-TO-HEAD FINAL: Speaking of winning, we have reached the end of GamingToday’s #Fantasy5 football contest. The 16 week NFL fantasy contest was run on our Twitter account @GamingTodayNews. The final takes place next week pitting @tmdsports* vs. @BradtheBeliever*. Even though it’s a head-to-head matchup both players will walk away with cash. 1st place was worth $500, 2nd gets $250. Check them out this week on Twitter to see their plays and who comes out on top.

“I loved the contest,” said @tmdsports. When asked how he approached the contest: “Just lookin’ for the quarterback/receiver pair that would have the best chance on any given weekend. It was a moving target every week to find it. Turns out the first week Brady/Gronk combo held up (from Week 1).”

Congrats also to the runners up* – @cprime25, @mikebottrell and @7027219BET, who took home $100 each for placing 3rd-5th respectively.

*#Fantasy5 standings were unofficial at press time due to the Monday night NFL game; places listed are based on projections and tiebreakers.
