The Nevada race and sports book community is mourning the death this week of industry veteran Walt Wilczewski.

Wilczewski, 62,was a longtime employee at the Plaza and El Cortez in downtown Las Vegas under gaming pioneer Jackie Gaughan.

Well known for his easy-going manner and quick smile, Wilczewski next spent more than a decade at John Gaughan’s Las Vegas Dissemination Company.

He had resolutely battled major health issues the past few years continuing to work whenever possible.

John Gaughan told GamingToday, “Walt spent his early Las Vegas career with Jackie Gaughan and we were proud to have him in his later years. He was a good man and will really be missed.”

Family and friends will gather at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa on Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Monterey Bay Room from 6 to 8 p.m. to remember the Omaha native.
