Football is in the air and on the tongues of sports bettors all over town as excitement builds for the 2016 NFL Draft this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
And once again Chuck Esposito, race and sportsbook director at Sunset Station, is inviting all football enthusiasts to join him, along with Brian Blessing from Sportsbook Radio, for the 3rd Annual “Get Drafted” party on Thursday, inside Club Madrid at Sunset Station.
“We like to kick the football season off in April with our draft party,” Esposito told us.
What a great idea. After all, lovers of the gridiron game have been without a meaningful punt or pass for nearly three months.
“The pro football draft is the ultimate reality show for fans . . . and we bring the draft fun and intrigue to Las Vegas with our party,” Esposito continued. “Not only is it a draft party, but when your team is on the clock you’ll have a chance to win a draft cap from your favorite team.”
All of the draft’s drama, action and excitement will be seen by party attendees on three large screen HD TVs set up in Club Madrid.
Best of all, it’s free and open to the public, plus the first 400 guests will receive a free “Get Drafted” T-shirt. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and there will be draft beer, shot and stadium food specials available.
DRAFT PREVIEW: If you’d like a preview of what to expect in the upcoming NFL draft, Brian Blessing will be doing a NFL Mock Draft edition of his Sportsbook Radio show (AM 1400 KSHP) from the Sunset Station sportsbook on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Brian always has some of the most knowledgeable sports handicappers and betting industry experts on his mock draft show each year, giving their insight on who will pick who and what it means to the team and the player.
This year the show will include Sunset’s very own race and sportsbook director Chuck Esposito, GamingToday columnist Andy Iskoe, Bruce Marshall, The Goldsheet; Tony Miller, Golden Nugget sportsbook director, and radio personality Bernie Fratto.
This is one show not to miss.
CONGRATULATIONS to Michael Gaughan, top gun at South Point Casino, on receiving the Industry Service Award from the Billiard and Bowling Institute of America.
It seems the good folks at BBIA were impressed with what MG has done for bowling over the years, including building more bowling alleys than any other individual. And they were especially impressed with the new world-class tournament Bowling Plaza, which is hosting the USBC Women’s Championships now through July 10 and in 2017 will host the USBC Open Championships.
“I’m in good company,” Michael told us with a smile, “Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason and J. Edgar Hoover each received this award.”
GET WELL WISHES go out to former GT staffer Richard White, who is also well known in a number of sportsbooks here in the Valley of Dollars.
See you around town.
