One-loss teams in the Final Four have a brand new life, and don’t discard the possibility of two SEC teams again appearing if Georgia and Roll Tide were to hook up in the SEC title game both unbeaten and the outcome winds up in a nail-biter.
But as we’ve seen, the landscape changes constantly. It’s likely we could have a whole different take on what’s ahead, but seeing Clemson, Auburn, Washington and Washington State all go down in flames as major favorites has let all the one-loss teams from the elite conferences back in the hunt.
Moving to the head of that list is USC in the Pac 12, Wisconsin and Ohio State in the Big Ten, Miami in the ACC, both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the Big 12, and of course the nation’s premier stand-alone, Notre Dame. Right now our Final Four consists of Alabama, Georgia, Penn State and TCU. But like those old “Mission Impossible” TV shows back in the day, this tape will self-destruct in five seconds.
And if angry enough to lay into a few teams for betting purposes, a good start would be Louisville, UCLA and BYU – respected programs that certainly don’t deserve any this season.
