The 11th week of the NFL season features a battle between two 7-2 upstarts when the Rams meet the Vikings in Minnesota, in addition to the New England-Oakland game in Mexico City.
New England Patriots (7-2) vs. Oakland Raiders (4-5), Mexico City
Time: 1:25 p.m.
Line: Patriots by 7 (54.5)
Facts: Tom Brady, who has thrown a league-high 343 passes but with only two interceptions, faces the only defense in the league with no interceptions... NE, coming off a 41-16 win in Denver on Sunday, spent the week in Colorado acclimating to the thin air for its game at Azteca Stadium (7,200 feet). The Raiders stayed most of the week home in Oakland, which has an altitude of 43 feet, give or take... In their last meeting, in 2014 in New England, the Patriots won 16-9 as a 14-point pick. The Patriots and Brady haven’t had a lower-scoring home game since (excluding a season finale while the JVs played)... In Oakland’s only mile-high game this year, it lost at Denver 16-10.
Analysis: Last year the Raiders did well in Mexico City in beating Houston 27-20 thanks in large part to their 12th man, the game officials, who made a host of seemingly horrible calls that greatly influenced the outcome. Oakland will need a lot more help than that to slow Brady, the league’s most prolific passer with 2,807 yards. He’ll be going against a club that has the league’s worst defensive passer rating, so the odds are good those DBs will be gasping for air. And defensively, the Patriots haven’t allowed anyone more than 17 points in their past five games. Sounds like a win for the defending champs.
Forecast: Patriots 30, Raiders 16
