VIP NFL Football's Dirty Dozen | The worst Pro Football teams against the spread coupled with bonehead decisions.
Part of our qualification for making the Dirty Dozen bulletin board is bonehead decisions. Well, in the Saints-Falcons game we had two of them in the final two minutes – one on each side.
A holding penalty against New Orleans during a potential game winning drive on 3rd down and 1 should have forced the Saints into a 3rd and 11 and possibly have to settle for a field goal to tie the game 20-20. Instead Atlanta coach Dan Quinn opts to decline the penalty.
Conventional wisdom out the window. New Orleans coach Sean Payton says no field goal and decides to go for it. Drew Brees is successful on the quarterback sneak and suddenly the Saints on the verge of scoring the potential winning TD.
Quinn’s decision was a head-scratcher to put it mildly. But guess what, it works out. Brees throws an interception and the Falcons only need a first down to ice the victory.
