Veteran Las Vegas sports handicapper and writer David Malinsky was found dead Friday at Mount Charleston following a weeklong search.

Malinsky, 57, was an experienced hiker and a stalwart in the Las Vegas sports betting community serving as a mentor to many local sports bettors. His body was discovered Friday near Mummy Spring, a popular hiking spot north of Mt. Charleston. He had been missing since April 14. His car had been found near the trailhead.

A close friend, Ted Sevransky, also a prominent handicapper, told local media, Malinsky slipped and fell to his death. Malinsky had been a Las Vegas resident since 1984.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
