The Belmont Stakes is this Saturday and the possibility of a Triple Crown for Justify looms large.
But if you are still unsure exactly how to bet and need more info before finalizing your exacta and trifecta selections, you should attend one of the seminars scheduled for this weekend, and listen to the advice of experts.
If you are on the south end of the valley, head to the South Point racebook for the Friday, June 8, 6 p.m. seminar that will feature in-house handicapper Pat McQuiggan, clocker Toby Terrell and Ralph Siraco, host of “Race Day Las Vegas” radio show (AM 1400 KSHP).
Those on the east side of town can find out all they need to know at Sunset Station racebook seminar, also on Friday, where noted pace analysis expert Jerry Jacovitz, GamingToday’s Steve Davidowitz and noted handicapper Richard Eng will analyze the entire Belmont race day card beginning at 6 p.m.
For those in the Summerlin area, Rampart will be hosting a Breakfast at Belmont handicapping seminar Saturday at 8 a.m. Syndicated professional handicapper Bob Ike and Duane Colucci, Rampart’s race and sports manager, will give bettors sound insight into handicapping the day’s races in plenty of time to make their bets.
THERE’S LIFE AFTER BOOKMAKING: Ever wonder what Las Vegas bookmakers do when they stop making book? We had a chance to chat with Lou D’Amico recently and asked him that very question.
Since exiting the world of lines, vigorish and bet taking in 2009 after his gig opening the M Resort sportsbook, Lou told us initially he did what “many retirees do” – relax, spend time with friends and family, and “enjoy the grandkids.”
But it wasn’t long before he was yearning to do more. And in 2011 he joined fellow sportsbook industry cohorts Jimmy Vaccaro, Kenny White, Richie Baccellieri, Rick Herron, Vinny Magliulo, and nationally syndicated radio host Brian Blessing to debut “The Linemakers,” a television show that analyzed games and betting lines and was broadcast from the South Point sportsbook.

A few years after that Lou found himself working with Leet, an eSports tournament administrator group, and helped set up last year’s eSports conference at Westgate. This involved speaking with A.G. Burnett, who at the time was chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and Tony Alamo, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, to “help them get a better understanding of eSports,” D’Amico told us.
Lou is also working on the production of “Cash is King in Vegas,” a documentary series about the mob in Las Vegas and the flow of cash during that era. It promises to be a very interesting series when complete.
Now Lou has branched out into the entertainment world and is helping promote Joey Ciccone’s upcoming appearance on July 7 at the Mint Tavern on West Sahara Avenue next to the landmark Golden Steer restaurant.
If you like jazz you’ll love Joey.
Miles Davis discovered Joey in the early 1980s and signed him up for a multi-year tour. During that time he also worked on several feature film soundtracks, including “Wise Guys.” He also released his first album, “Say Hello to Hollywood.”
We can’t wait to find out what Lou decides to do next during his “retirement.”
