Atlanta Falcons (1-7) at New Orleans Saints (7-1)
Time: 10 a.m.
Line: Saints -13.5 (Total: 51)
The skinny: In the only game this week in which both teams are coming off a bye, the Saints will be looking for their seventh straight victory. Atlanta is looking to end a six-game losing streak since beating Philadelphia in Week 2.
Facts: Atlanta QB Matt Ryan, who threw for 751 yards and seven TDs last year in two losses to N.O., will be back in the lineup after sitting out the team’s last game (ankle). Saints RB Alvin Kamara (ankle) returns after missing the past two. From 1984-1999, Atlanta was 16-0 ATS in the Superdome, winning outright 10 times as a ‘dog. But since 2011, that ATS mark is 2-6. Not bad. Saints QB Drew Brees, who was out with a right thumb injury for five weeks, was 34-for-43 for 373 yards and three TDs in his return two weeks ago in a 31-9 win over Arizona.
Analysis: Even without Kamara and Brees, the Saints managed to pour it on offensively in Chicago, winning 36-25 three weeks ago. Now, with the two studs on the field and going against a defense that’s not nearly as strong as the Bears’, the Saints should be able to get 40-plus, like last year’s 43-37 OT win in Atlanta. Defensively, the Falcons rank last by yielding a 53 percent success rate to foes on third down. As long as the Saints aren’t too overconfident.
Prediction: Saints 42, Falcons 14
