While Rory McIlroy is the darling of the golfing world for his destruction of the U.S. Open field at Congressional, Harrison Frazar deserves equal praise just for being on the PGA Tour. Frazar had not won in 355 starts and was playing this season on a medical exemption, which required him to earn over $600,000 in 11 events to earn his 2011 Tour card. After missing five straight cuts, Frazar took time off to re-assess both his game and life. It paid off. He won the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic at Memphis in a playoff on the third extra hole to earn just over $1 million, a trip to the 2012 Masters and Tour exemption through 2013. And, Frazar made the cut this past week at the U.S. Open, finishing tied for 30th. Well done, Harrison.
