Santos Laguna will replace Juventus in the upcoming Herbalife World Football Challenge slated for Aug. 5 at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Justice Entertainment Group (JEG), Major League Soccer (MLS) and CAA Sports made the announcement Friday. Santos Laguna is the Primera Division champion. La Liga Champion Real Madrid remains the opponent in the competition with MGM Resorts International the title sponsor and Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino the host hotel.

It’s a title bout fit for the big stage of Las Vegas,” said Daren Libonati, president & COO of JEG. “With both teams coming off championship seasons as well as success in various club competitions, Santos Laguna and Real Madrid are two of the world’s hottest teams so fans will being seeing soccer at its highest level.”
Due to its participation in the upcoming 2012 Italian Super Cup in Beijing on August 11, an official Serie A league match, Juventus FC had to withdrawal from the match.
Real Madrid, one of the most decorated teams in the history of soccer, clinched the 2012 La Liga title in May, the latest accolade in the club’s storied history, which includes a record nine UEFA Champions League trophies. In 2000, the team was voted the most successful club of the 20th century by FIFA, the international governing body of soccer.
Santos Laguna is the current champion of Mexico’s Primera Division and over the past decade has become one of Mexico’s most successful teams. The Guerreros (Warriors), as they are also known, have obtained four league championships (1996, 2001, 2008, and 2012) and have played in four of the last five championship finals.
Santos Laguna is led by captain and goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez, Juan Pablo “Chato” Rodriguez, Spanish player Marc Crosas, American striker Herculez Gomez and recently signed Gerardo Lugo.
More than half a million fans attended the event last year and sports fans across North America will once again enjoy a summer of top international matches in 2012.

Fans who already purchased tickets to the Las Vegas match can use the existing ticket for the new matchup or receive a ticket refund until June 26 by returning to the location where the ticket was purchased.
