Well last week at least we did give Bubba Watson a lot of print even though we said it wasn’t going to be his year at the Traveler’s Championship. We signed off on that incorrect scorecard and move on to suburban D.C. where we are thinking of throwing everything but the kitchen sink on Stewart Cink.
Cink was 150-1 to win last week in Connecticut but moved into contention with a final round 62. He was done too soon to threaten Bubba but wound up solo second. It’s been a long hard climb back to prominence for Cink, once ranked as high as fifth in the world and the one who beat Tom Watson in the 2009 British Open. Cink is now 45, and most thought his best days on the PGA Tour were long gone, but his showing at River Highlands have washed our hands of that notion for now.
