Two of my favorite things are playing poker and eating. I play a lot of poker at the Venetian so I always have a lot of food choices available. When I take a break from the tables I don’t want to go far in order to stay caught up on all the sports action going on.
I will often find a place to eat that offers me some cold drinks, good food and lots of TV’s. This week I found one that’s only in the second week of operation but I have been there twice already. Royal Britannia Gastropub just opened in the Canal Shoppes at the Venetian.
It is your classic looking pub with two dining areas. They have patio seating and seating in the bar area. This is the place to be as in addition to seats at the bar they have booths with rich burgundy leather seats. When sitting at the bar you are facing a very nice TV setup.
There are two different four-TV walls, one on each end of the bar. They will put whatever game you want on so you can follow your favorite team or sweat that bet you made. You can see all eight of the TV’s and have your own flat screen right on the wall of your booth. Honestly, it’s a perfect set up.
Now let’s get to the important part, and that’s the food. The menu has a nice variety, from appetizers to soups and salads along with burgers and steaks. There’s something for everyone on the menu. I started with an appetizer and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it.
I ordered the Shrimp & Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail, which consisted of five colossal shrimp with a big heaping of jumbo lump crabmeat. There was so much crabmeat it was actually unbelievable. The appetizer was $22 but it would have been worth the price if it were just the shrimp or the crab. Getting big portions of both, plus the quality of it, made it an outstanding value. I savored every last bite. They also had a Lobster Mac & Cheese appetizer that looked so tempting.
On my second trip I wanted to try a burger as they have several options. All of their burgers are fresh made patties consisting of ground chuck, ground short rib and ground brisket. This is the golden mix for a perfect tasting burger or, as my buddy refers to it, the Holy Trinity of burger meat.
This combination creates one of the tastiest burgers you can make. If you want an exotic burger they also have a bison one. If you really want to push the envelope for a heart attack they have a Donut Burger. Yes, the bun is a donut. That’s a bit extreme, even for me.
The food was great and I absolutely loved the TV setup for watching games. Considering how convenient it is when I’m at the Venetian playing poker, I will be visiting Royal Britannia Gastropub often.
The wait staff was exceptional, especially considering they were only in their second week of operation. I give Royal Britannia GastropPub a rating of 3.75 Forks.
