My Vegas hangout after poker is JJANGA

It’s poker season in Las Vegas as the World Series of Poker is at the Rio for six weeks of tournaments and cash games.
Not only is there action at the Rio but just about every poker room in town has some kind of tournament series going on. So for this week’s food article I’m going to look at a place to eat that is a favorite of poker players and is open late, which is another big plus for poker players.
As a poker player you don’t always eat at normal hours. One of my favorite places for sushi, and trust me Las Vegas has a lot of great sushi places, is JJANGA Japanese Restaurant located at 3650 S. Decatur Blvd. This is just minutes from the Rio and the Strip.
You can order off the menu ala carte or take advantage of their all-you-can-eat specials, which for lunch is $20.95; dinner is $25.95. They are open till 2 a.m. every night and offer a late night Happy Hour when the all-you-can-eat special is $19.95.
Order directly from the menu picking whatever you are craving. They have a wide selection of appetizers to get you started. I started with some edamame. They have both regular and spicy garlic.
There are some premium items that are only offered on the dinner pricing. The golden scallop, the mini beefsteak, mini pork steak and grilled mackerel are appetizers only available for dinner.
Now it’s on to the main dishes, as I like to start with some fresh sushi. My three favorites by far are the yellowtail, halibut and garlic tuna. The garlic tuna is some of the best I’ve had in the city. I usually get a few orders of it.
After enjoying fresh sushi I move over to the specialty rolls. I highly advise going with a group, this way you can share many different rolls. You can order as many as you like but if by yourself you will fill up fast eating an entire roll.
There are so many rolls to pick from that even though I have been here so many times I haven’t come close to trying them all. I make a point of having a roll I had before and trying a new one on each visit. Now you see why going with a group is better.
One of my favorite rolls is the W07, which has shrimp tempura inside, and crab and avocado on top. I also like Mel’s roll, which has shrimp, crab and cucumber inside, and avocado on the outside.
The Jackpot Special has shrimp tempura and cucumber inside with spicy crab, avocado and shrimp on top with their eel sauce. There are several rolls with fun names like: Tastes like my Ex Girlfriend, Fat Ass, Screaming Honey and the Threesome Special.
JJANGA has a second location at 6125 S. Fort Apache Road where you can also have a full hibachi menu if not feeling like sushi. I have been to this location many times as well. I give JJANGA Japanese Restaurant a rating of 3.75 Forks.
