Bingo still means Plaza

Looking for something different to do in downtown Las Vegas? Why not check out the bingo room at the Plaza? It’s the only bingo room in downtown, so get out of the heat, stop in, sit down, relax and play bingo.

Throughout the summer they are offering Super Match Bingo, which is played on a 5-foot high by 10-foot long high definition screen and offers players the chance to win up to $1,000 each session.

Now through Sept. 30, every player in each bingo session will receive a raffle ticket when they buy in for the session. During the session, a ticket will be drawn and the lucky ticket holder can then play the match game, sponsored by Gaming Arts.

When the player matches two squares on the board, they win the prize shown, ranging from vouchers for free pizza at Pop Up Pizza or towards dinner at Oscar’s steakhouse to the grand prize of $1,000.

Gaming Arts, a Las Vegas company, is a leader in the design and production of keno and bingo games and products, including a full suite of bingo SuperGames.

TEE OFF: Now that the longer days of summer are here, CasaBlanca Golf Club in Mesquite is offering extended hours of operation to 5 p.m. daily with 18-hole tee times available for booking until 2:30 p.m. Guests can experience $25 green fees after 10 a.m. with cart and tax included.

You won’t find another golf course in Mesquite offering extended hours for summer and it’s the only course offering tee times after 2 p.m.

But, the 18-hole, 7,011-yard landscape, designed and developed by Cal Olson in 1996, etched in the wetlands of the Mesquite Valley and winding into the Virgin River basin, is worth the drive, just a little over an hour, north on I-15. No matter what your golfing skills, you will enjoy this course.

To book a tee time or for more information, visit or call 702-346-6764.

HIGH HANDS: While the World Series of Poker continues to captivate thousands of poker players at the Rio through July 17, reader “Bill the Poker Guy” emailed to tell us there is still plenty of action going on at the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa in Florida for those who couldn’t make it to the WSOP. The July High Hand promo will award winners every half hour each day this month. The prize ranges from $500 to $1,000 in chips. Details are available on their website,

CONGRATULATIONS to fellow columnist George Epstein on being honored with the 2017 Mort Kushner Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering to those who have dedicated exceptional service to the Society, promoting its ideals.

HONOR FLIGHT: Gov. Brian Sandoval’s Women Veterans Advisory Committee (WVAC) is working with Honor Flight Nevada to set up a Military Heroines Honor Flight specifically for Nevada’s women veterans. The non-profit Honor Flight organization escorts veterans to the memorials in Washington D.C. dedicated to their service and the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

It costs about $1,000 per veteran, approximately $50K per flight, so every donation is important. If you’d like to help, go to one of their websites – (south) or (north) and click on the donation button. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our independence this Fourth of July than to honor those who have helped us maintain that freedom.

See you around town.
