Shania Twain comes to Caesars, Cannery has huge lineup of stars

The Colosseum at Caesars keeps coming up with more superstars. Shania Twain is on the comeback trail and has signed for two years as one of the rotating resident stars beginning Dec. 1, 2012.

Advance tickets are available to American Express card members through June 18. Just a few years ago, Shania was one of the top country performers in the business before nearly "drowning" in personal problems. These troubles have hopefully been overcome and she once again will be a leader in the pack.

Mary Wilson, formerly with the Supremes, will appear at the Riviera from June 22-July 3. I’ve actually known Mary for many years, but I never know what to expect when I go backstage. Sometimes she knows me and sometimes she doesn’t. Hot and cold doesn’t work so well for me.
Sources tell me business is picking up at the Riviera, which is good news for Rich Little. Connie Stevens is part of their current line up, along with John Byner and the 5th Dimension.

The Cannery group has entered into Summer Concert Fun. Rampart, Eastside Cannery, and the Cannery have quite a lineup of weekend shows. Among them are Wilson Phillips and Men of the Soul Tour featuring Michael McDonald and Michael Bolton. For more information as to time and dates, contact the casinos directly. Cannery has something for everyone this summer!

As of this week, Las Vegas has a new mayor. The Goodman dynasty continues as Mayor Oscar Goodman turns the gavel over to his lovely wife, Caroline. With the popularity Oscar has enjoyed, it’s expected Caroline will follow in his footsteps.

The Mirage is celebrating the fifth anniversary of Love, which continues to do a brisk business. Love is the Beatles production created by the addition of Cirque du Soleil.

Another upcoming fifth anniversary (June 24) is Phantom – the Las Vegas Spectacular. This magnificent production features Anthony Crivello as the Phantom along with a great group of performers and an unbelievable chandelier. This is one of the best and most lavish productions ever put on stage.

One of the great moments of the week was Cheyenne Marketing’s grand opening of Dream Vision Studios and Women In Film. Shawn Lane heads up Cheyenne Marketing and joined forces with Phyllis Carreon-Taie to create this magnificent 11,000-square-foot stage.

Phyllis is the founder of the Las Vegas branch of Women in Film and is highly regarded in the industry. Green Vision Studios is located at 4544 West Russell Road.

Regular readers know there is no way this columnist can avoid some of the week’s headlines. For example: Weiner, Weiner, Weiner! Do we need any more scandals? Resign already. It’s been great fodder for all the comedians though.

The annual AFAN Black & White Party date has just been released – it’s Aug. 27. This year the party will be held at the Boulevard Pool at the new and beautiful Cosmopolitan. For more details, contact afanlv.org.

It’s a great time to check out all the current and chic looks that are only found in Las Vegas, baby!

Icon comic, Marty Allen, now 89 years young, will be filling in for Louie Anderson at Palace Station from June 14-18. This man can still show new and upcoming comics how it should be done. His wife, Karen, will be performing with him.

The Pointer Sisters will be appearing at The Orleans July 16-17 and Engelbert Humperdinck will be back on the Strip at Paris from July 21-24. It’s good to see these iconic performers back on stage where they belong. No special effects, just plain old-fashioned talent.

The Pointer Sisters have been on the hit charts since the ‘80s and continue singing their hearts out for audiences. Among all their awards and acknowledgments, the Soul Train Hall of Fame has to be at the top of their list.

The Monti Minute should be on the air in a couple of weeks. It’s going to be filled with show details, dining features and gossip, gossip, gossip. Should be fun.

With a new Las Vegas mayor, a new Nevada governor and the Monti Minute… we have a lot to look forward to.

The Rev. Monti once again wishes you a great week.
