Keeping it simple at the Palms casino can be just as enjoyable

Over the last several columns I have told about some great places to eat around town here in Las Vegas. Everyone loves a great meal but sometimes keeping it simple can be just as enjoyable.

I have found what I think is the perfect way to spend a Saturday or Sunday in Las Vegas. It’s football season and we all love to head to the Strip and sit in the sports books and watch the games. Most of the sports books on the Strip are jammed packed on the weekends.

If not there early to get a seat you are standing to watch your games. Hey if you are like me you have action going from morning to night. Well I have found the perfect place to watch the games with all the big screens in the sports book and get a nice comfy chair to sit in.

Go to the Palms and check out Cantor’s poker room as it is located right in the sports book. Yes, this sports book is like every other sports book on a Saturday or Sunday as it’s standing room only if you didn’t get a seat early. If you sit down to play some poker you have a perfect seat for watching the games.

To me this is one of the best kept secrets off the Strip as this poker room doesn’t get the traffic of Bellagio, Venetian or Aria. None of those poker rooms, though, are sitting in the middle of one of Cantor’s swanky sports books.

If you are looking for high stakes action you won’t find it here but if looking for 1-3, 2-5 No Limit Hold’em 2-4, 4-8 Limit Hold’em they have the games you are looking for.

Now to make our Saturday or Sunday complete we need some munchies while we watch the games, right? Just behind the poker room is the food court. So if you don’t want to stop playing poker and watching the games you can do what I do and order from Earl of Sandwich.

They will deliver a sandwich right to your table so you don’t have to miss a single hand of poker or a single play of the football game. My favorites at Earl of Sandwich are the Italian (c’mon that one was a no brainer) and Earl’s Club made with turkey, smoked bacon and aged cheddar.

Speaking of turkey it’s that time of the year when they bring back their Holiday Turkey Sandwich. This baby is Thanksgiving in a bun, as it is oven roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and warm gravy. This special sandwich is only around for a couple of months so be sure to try one soon.

There are many other fast food choices in the Palms Food court if you don’t want to step away from the action. Football and Hot Dogs always make a good parlay so you can grab a couple from Nathan’s or if you feel like something sweet after that game winning touchdown check out Blizz Frozen Yogurt.

Sometimes keeping it simple can be just as fun as going to a 4 star restaurant. So if you are feeling like football, poker and a good sandwich check out Cantor’s poker room at the Palms. Come up and say hi if you see me there.

As far as Earl of Sandwich goes I give it 3.25 Forks.
