Gaetano’s has food like mama used to make

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Las Vegas is just a few miles from my home in Henderson. Gaetano’s (10271 S. Eastern Ave. #111) is as good as, if not better than, any Italian restaurant on the Strip.

It’s a family owned business where Gaetano himself or one of his sons will walk up to your table and ask how your meal was. I found this restaurant when I moved to Anthem a few years ago I have been going there ever since.

We usually start off with an appetizer and my wife’s favorite is their Bruschetta. Personally, I like Prosciutto di Parma con melone, which is imported ham from Parma, Italy wrapped around slices of fresh melon. My other favorite is Carciofi Fritti, which is fried baby artichokes, served with a pesto aioli dipping sauce.

For an entrée my wife’s favorite dish is their Capellinialla Checca, which is angel hair pasta with extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh diced tomatoes and basil. Her other favorite is their Lasagna served with a meat sauce.

For me, my favorite is a dish that isn’t even on the menu, but is one of their daily Chef Specials – Braciole served over a bed of Gnocchi. This is just awesome and every time I get it I say it should be on the menu all the time.

Another dish I like here is the Vitellinaalla Sorrentina, which is thin slices of veal topped with grilled eggplant, bufala mozzarella and fresh tomato and basil. When it comes to meat sauce I am as fussy as they come and Gaetano’s is one of my favorites in Las Vegas.

If you’re not in the mood for a red sauce I would recommend the Scaloppine di Vitello con Funghi, which is thin slices of veal with shitake mushrooms and a wine demi glaze sauce.

They have a great assortment of desserts, but most of the time I am stuffed by that time and usually pass. It’s a good thing I live so close because Gaetano’s is like a big home cooked meal Mom use to make and that usually required a nap afterward.

If you want good fresh homemade Italian food head over to Gaetano’s. You’ll be glad you did. I give Gaetano’s 3.75 Forks!
