Treasure Island's Mojito Bar unveils new drink menu

Last week I was invited to attend a private tasting party at the Mojito Bar at the Seafood Shack located inside Treasure Island. The party was to unveil the Mojito Bar’s new drink menu.

My wife Lori and I were greeted with our choice of four different Mojito’s. Now to be honest, she is not a big fan of Mojito’s, which I figured worked out great since that made her the designated driver by default. Our very friendly and attentive hostess suggested we try the Mermaid Mojito made with Strawberry Rum and fresh strawberries. It was simply out of this world.

In fact, the drink was so good Lori tasted it, thus causing a dilemma about this designated driver plan. Well, being at a casino, we gambled to determine who was driving and she lost the coin flip. Thus, I got to enjoy the Mojito’s the rest of the night.

At the bar were waiters offering samples from the Seafood Shack menu. The first item we tried was the Coconut Shrimp, which were jumbo. The coconut breading was very good, but not over powering. They served the coconut shrimp with a cilantro-lime aioli sauce.

The next item we tried was the crab cakes, consisting of lump crab meat and red peppers seared in butter, served with a Cajun remoulade sauce.

The waiters were also serving fresh oysters on the half shell. This one I passed on, not being a fan of oysters, but people were eating and enjoying them immensely.

The waiter then brought out regular Fried Shrimp and, just like the coconut shrimp, it was huge. Plus, the breading didn’t overpower the shrimp.

The cocktail sauce was very good with just the right amount of kick. My favorite item was the Lobster and Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms. I highly recommend them as a great way to start your meal.

The waiters came out with these little metal buckets that contained French fries. OK, why are they so proud of their French fries? Well, these weren’t your ordinary fries as they were a garlic Parmesan truffle oil French fry. These fries were simply amazing.

Finally, after filling up on all these great appetizer items the waiters started bringing out trays with little miniature desserts. We got to sample the Key Lime Pie, which was light and refreshing. Next was the Carrot Cake (my wife’s favorite) served sitting on a layer of pineapple sauce. The third and final dessert we tried was the chocolate layer cake. This was my favorite but, to be honest, almost anything chocolate is my favorite.

I will be back to try a full meal at the Seafood Shack but everything I had on this visit we enjoyed. So if you want to feel like you’re at a beach without leaving Las Vegas, head over and have a Mojito or two along with some great seafood. I give the Seafood Shack and Mojito Bar 3.75 Forks!
