Naples-style pizza at Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana

Over our last several reviews we have been doing Steaks and Burgers. Don’t get me wrong, we all love steaks and burgers, but today we are going to look at Pizza as it’s been too long since we reviewed one.

We headed out to Henderson and Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana (140 Green Valley Parkway) in The District across from Green Valley Ranch. This is not your ordinary pizza. It is authentic just as if you were in Naples, Italy, ordering. Pizza in the United States as we know and love isn’t the same as you would get in Italy.

At Settebello they take their pizza seriously; in fact they are Vera Pizza Napoletana (VPN) certified. To be certified by the VPN you have to follow strict guidelines on the process and ingredients used in the making of your pizzas. VPN guarantees the pizza is the same as if you flew to Naples.

First off there’s a thinner crust than most pizzas here in the U.S. Traditionally, when pizza is served in Naples it is not sliced. You just pull apart slices as if you were breaking off a piece of bread. This is how the pizza is served at Settebello. Upon request they will slice the pizza for you. The dough is always fresh and hand tossed, never using a rolling pin. They only use San Marzano tomatoes and the mozzarella is always fresh milk or buffalo milk mozzarella.

All of the pizzas are cooked directly on the surface of the wood burning oven. This process gives the pizza a crispy golden brown crust. We started our meal with a salad. My wife’s favorite is the Insalata, which is mixed greens, balsamic vinaigrette, cracked pepper and shaved parmigiano reggiano. The dressing was amazing and it is a perfect light salad for a hot summer day.

Another great choice on the appetizer menu is the Misto, which is a sampling of Italian meats. vegetables and cheeses served with Focaccia bread. Order this plus a salad with a glass of wine and you are in heaven.

Now let’s get to the star of the show – the pizza itself. Napoletana has several signature pizzas to choose from if you don’t want to create your own. My wife loves the Margherita pizza, which has crushed tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, parmigiano reggiano and extra virgin olive oil.

For my choice I went with the Diavola, which is crushed tomatoes, finocchiona (peppered salame), roasted red bell peppers, crushed red peppers, garlic, mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil. We have been here several times and always the pizzas have been great.
