The NFL season is in full swing and I have to admit this is my favorite time of the year, as we all love to watch football.

I enjoy heading out to watch the games, enjoying some good food and cold beverages. It’s fun going to a sports book where every play people are screaming with joy and some are not – depending on which team they’re rooting for as a fan of the day. By that I mean which team you have bet on that day.

I enjoy going to a sports bar that is home to a particular team if I bet that one. Call me crazy but there is nothing more annoying than having a big bet on the game and the person next to you jumps up and down because a guy scored a TD for his fantasy team.

By going to a sports bar that is home to the team I bet that day, there will be strength in numbers – or maybe if the game didn’t go the way I wanted, company for my misery. I have to admit though, I do kind of feel bad if betting the underdog +3.5 and they lose by 3 on a last second field goal. Everyone is bummed out because their team lost the game, but I won my bet.

I make sure not to do my happy dance at the bar, as that would just be disrespectful after everyone was rooting so hard with me the whole game.

This week I went to Lucky’s Lounge at 7345 S. Jones Blvd. Lucky’s is home to the San Francisco 49ers. I was there on the opening Sunday of the NFL season and the place was packed with fans watching the 49ers play Green Bay in a rematch of last year’s playoff game.

Lucky’s has both a bar and a separate dining area. The dining area was full as fans were watching the big screen TV in that area. I sat at the bar where no matter what seat you have there is a TV right in front of you. They had beer specials during the game and a pretty good selection.

Their food menu is not elaborate, but they have you covered. For me, nothing goes better with football than chicken wings. Good size wings cooked just the way I like with sauces that are very flavorful. I really like their fries, which were cooked to a perfect crisp on the outside yet soft inside.

It’s amazing how many places around town don’t serve good french fries – something so simple, yet so many places don’t get it right. Lucky’s does.

They also serve pizza and nachos, which are both great game watching items. On this trip I didn’t try the pizza but I can tell you it was the one food item almost everyone was ordering. The pizza looked and smelled good.

I found the waitresses to be very friendly and attentive, even though it was extremely busy. So the next time you want to watch a 49ers game, head over to Lucky’s Lounge. I give it a rating of 3.50 Forks out of 4.

Note: This football season I am going to try and hit as many sports bars that are home to a NFL team as I can. If you have a favorite bar here in town that is home to a NFL team, email me the name and location and I will put them on my list. You can reach me at [email protected]Today.com.
