The divine Diana Ross was a symbol of the quintessential diva at The Venetian. This woman is incredible. Her singing, performance, stage presence, fashions – one of a kind! Ross has always been so wonderful to this columnist. This will always be the top entertainment diva show in Vegas.
Frank Marino, of the Divas Las Vegas show, has seen her perform over 100 times. Frank, a divine friend of mine, is the longest running headliner (27 years) in Las Vegas and amazingly is redoing his show at The Linq Theater, adding Adele and Barbra Streisand to his standards of Liza Minnelli and Joan Rivers.
Last Sunday I was going to see Cher at the Monte Carlo’s beautiful Park Theater, but it was cancelled due to a health issue. I was really looking forward to seeing her performance in her newest scaled down number of costume changes and tweaking of the entire show itself.
Next month UFC 209 and the PAC-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament will be at T-Mobile Arena. It is wonderful that our town is now not just a place to view, but where the action is actually happening. The building of the T-Mobile Arena enabled this all.
Duke of Earl
For my longtime readers of the past 14 years, you know I am a great fan of Earl Turner. He put a one man show together at the South Point, telling his story through music. It deals with his life, his ups, downs, successes and includes his son and sister. I like that Earl Turner deals with music as a business. When one gig is over, you have to already have booked the next one in line. Like a scheduling spreadsheet, you have to fill in all those dates.
Magic plus Celine
We just had the Magic Fashion convention – where future looks and styles will work their way into the stores thanks to the astute buyers of new found designers.
The Mandalay Bay, Sands, and LVCVA are all involved in the staging of this massive show, which started over 30 years ago featuring the men’s wear lines from California. It is now global and the accessories are incredible! I personally favor the Donald J. Pliner line of divinely designed footwear, always comfortable.
Celine Dion unveiled her all-encompassing lifestyle brand, including home goods, active wear, beauty products and more, which will all be available in stores this Fall.
Pulling for David
I knew before it hit the media that David Cassidy had been suffering from early dementia. He was recently on stage in California and couldn’t remember the words to his own songs. A dear friend, I knew he had not been well for years but had thought it was an alcohol problem. We go back to the days of Chelsea Records, Disco Tex and the Partridge Family. He was the one who opened doors for me and made sure I was included and not excluded. Please start a page of fan support on Facebook!
Cheers for Spears
I hope everyone watched Britney Spears’ story, “Britney Ever After,” on the Lifetime channel. It is a story of redemption. From her marriages to meltdowns, she was a pop princess who came up through the Mickey Mouse Club and numerous hits. Then she went through some bad marriages. Her father is her conservator and rumor has it she wants out of that. She has her beautiful children and is a great success at Planet Hollywood. Her fans adore her as an original pop princess. She has a new man in her life and a long residency here. We are thrilled for her.
Clue us, Mariah
Now really, what’s happening with Mariah Carey? We know the wedding is off. She did burn the wedding dress on her show, “Mariah’s World.” Now she’s admitting to the younger boyfriend, one of her dancers. She’s very happy and will be coming back to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. She can fill arenas to this day being a diva and international star. You are divine!
A rising Jackson
Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, has a fashion cover and looks absolutely fabulous. She looks great after drugs, suicide attempts plus many ups and downs. She took her father’s death very hard, but now she’s becoming a model and looks to be doing very well.
In more Jackson news, MJ’s mother Katherine, who is 85, was being taken advantage of by a member of the family so Janet is caring for her. Where’s Latoya been through all of this?
New acts coming
We’ve been waiting for months to hear what’s going in at the Tropicana. The big room is about to announce two big acts. There are two they are considering.
Same at the Westgate. We know we have the Prince show in the big room and we have Sexy in the lounge and Vinnie Favorito.
Las Vegas production company Red Mercury, who handles these shows is now doing a show at The Stratosphere where they have “MJ Live.” Vegas and its residencies will have more stars coming and wanting residencies. We look forward to a fabulous year of entertainment.
I was shocked to hear Oprah has not only lost 50 pounds, but is going to be a new correspondent on “60 Minutes.” That is a great move! She is the voice of many eras and also one of the richest women in the world. Her influence from book clubs to health to human rights are admirable!
There’s a big shake-up going on in TV news departments. Top newswomen are leaving in droves and changing channels. Good sources tell me even Billy Bush might show up on another station. We’ll see.
Have a great week.
