One of the great things about Las Vegas is we have so many great places to eat both on and off the Strip. Most restaurants don’t get packed until later in the evening but if you want to take advantage of good food at great prices I suggest hitting some of the Happy Hours around town.
Almost every bar or restaurant has some kind of Happy Hour special but like anything thing else they all aren’t the same. In this week’s column I’m going to share some of the better Happy Hours I like to take advantage of.
Herbs & Rye
Located at 3713 W. Sahara Ave., it is by far my favorite Happy Hour in Las Vegas. There is the look and feel of an old school speakeasy. The bartenders make some of the best cocktails in town, but for this Happy Hour it’s not about the drinks, it’s all about the food. Happy Hour at Herbs & Rye is from 5 until 8 p.m., and again from midnight until 3 a.m. They offer 50% off select items. That part is pretty common but what isn’t common is that all their steak entrees are on the Happy Hour menu, also at 50% off.
During Happy Hour you can get a 9-ounce Filet that is normally $52 for just $26. The 18-ounce Rib Eye is $59 but during Happy Hour is just $29.50. All of the steak entrees come with a side dish as well. Most steakhouses charge you another $8-$10 for a side dish but at Herbs & Rye the side is included and they have about 10 sides to choose from. My favorite is the Truffle Mac & Cheese. These steaks are as good as anything you would get at a steakhouse on the Strip.
I give the Herbs & Rye Happy Hour a rating of 4 forks.
Who doesn’t like a good burger? Well, when that burger comes from a fine steakhouse it sounds even better. Now let’s take that prime steakhouse burger and add Wisconsin cheddar cheese and peppered bacon. Add fries and you’ve got a meal. Now here’s the best part – during Happy Hour, 5-7 p.m. daily, this Prime Burger is just $8. Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar has two locations – Town Square at 6515 S. Las Vegas Blvd. and the other Summerlin at 8721 W. Charleston Blvd.
This is one of the best Burgers in town and at $8 with fries is a great deal. If you aren’t feeling like a burger you can get Filet Mignon Flatbread for $8 during Happy Hour as well. Another favorite is the Sweet Chile Calamari for just $7. During Happy Hour they offer five different specialty cocktails and five different wines by the glass with most priced at $6 or $7. They also offer a beer special – two Blue Moon for $6. All of the Happy Hour specials are available in the bar area only.
I give Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar Happy Hour a rating of 3.75 forks.
