Diana still supreme diva at age 73

Diana Ross, the great Motown diva, ended her residency at the Wynn on Saturday, Feb. 24. She performed some of her greatest hits during the shows and was very affable and audience friendly to all. At 73, she is still in her prime. “Touch Me in the Morning” was sensational! Her voice lent and bent to the octaves and tonal acmes and descents that have endeared her to her avid fans since the 1960’s with the Supremes.
Diana has outlasted most Motown greats (female) in the touring venues and concerts and she looks incredible! Her costumes envelope her svelte, shapely physique like a glove made to order. She is a true icon in the world of music.
Diana, we want you back again, we love you! I hope you caught her.
You have got to see OPIUM! The pre-opening public relations stunts, appearances, coverage, have made it a shiny destination that will be housed in the Opium Theater next to Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at the Cosmopolitan.
Cosmo CEO Bill McBeath, who is aware of the opioid crisis in the U.S., says this show is not about the drug opium but instead about visions and fantasy. It opens on March 13.
I do like sparkles, new outlooks, new productions and anxiously await the reviews of this new Spiegelworld endeavor.
Have you ever wandered along west Sahara Avenue and seen a free standing building near Jones Boulevard named Count’s Vamp’d? This is a really hot place that has been there for many years. It is a swinging, rock and roll, good time, vibe-based place to hang. This off-Strip gem is not just for locals, but visitors as well. Recently, Frankie Perez and The Truth played there – WOW!
A puncher’s chance
Another new room I’ve discovered is Cascade Lounge at The Rampart, and it packs a punch! It seats 400 and tickets are only $18. Tribute shows seem to be the mainstay of this venue and it is filled. Tickets are already on sale for California Classics, a Beach Boys tribute, on March 26.
I like the Rampart, always have, and since the Strip on a weekend can be hectic, locals venues are becoming more popular, especially with Strip parking fees rising!
Odds & Ends
Ozzy Osbourne will be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Oct. 13 for a must-see concert. Tickets went on sale this past Saturday. Get yours soon before they are gone.
• Did you ever go on the High Roller? I have and the view is too fab to even describe. There is a promo for locals – 50% off with the promo code: HRLOCAL. Now is your chance to see what many have said is the best view in Las Vegas!
• The Who’s Roger Daltrey (the original voice and character of the “Tommy” rock opera), will be blasting out his great guitar riffs and voice on March 7 and 10 at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. I have always found Daltrey to be a great rocker and a fine gentleman and actor. His engaging smile when he’s performing takes you on a ride that brings back those early days of the baby boomer generation.
• The Orleans has Loverboy on March 30. Burton Cummings will be there March 31-April 1. On March 18 remember to catch Bee Gees Gold at the Suncoast.
At the cinema
I caught Clint Eastwood’s newest film “The 15:17 to Paris.” I was delighted by the fact all three heroes were played by the actual people who were involved in this story.
The images of them as young boys, how they found their way in life, became military men (two of them) and true heroes got me in complete non-stop involvement in this latest entry.
This film is a must see.
I must mention “Black Panther.” I really got into the amazing feats and the special effects. It is a good film worth seeing.
