Bon Jovi rips up T-Mobile; Nixon for NY governor – no not that one

At first, I could not believe it. Then reality settled in – Cynthia Nixon, the noted Tony award winner (fabulous Broadway actress) best known for her “Sex and the City” role, has thrown her hat in the political arena running against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

Miss Nixon is quite formidable, has great opinions and theories in politics, but her field of reference is performance and the world of plays, television and films. I admire her moxie for deciding to run, but truly doubt she will withstand the primaries that will be held in September.

Back to Vegas!

Jon Bon Jovi really racked them up at a packed T-Mobile Arena on St. Patrick’s weekend. With two solo albums and 12 studio albums with his band that have sold over 130 million copies worldwide, it’s no wonder this New Jersey man will soon be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A great New Yorker and now devout Las Vegan, Vinny “Vin A.” Adinolfi who also plays with the family rock act The Bronx Wanderers at Bally’s (I could see that show a hundred times and still come back for more) opened for Bon Jovi. What a thrill. Good luck Vin A., I feel this is a springboard for greater gigs to come.

Pool season, my friends

It is nearly time for the pool. Got your bod ready? Got your sunnies picked out? Got your suits trendy and wet? Yes, Las Vegas – a city without a real beach – has become a beach town! All those fabulous day clubs at the pools of properties along the Strip and some local venues, are ready to pop.

Day clubs, pools, a chance to meet, a moment to show off, to have fun in the sun, is all ready to happen! You can even rent your own cabana to have a private area that stakes out your turf. Those clubs are a great reason why Las Vegas has so many summertime visitors. Ready to spend, ready to meet, ready to gamble and enjoy the entertainment scene later in the day! Splash it to me, mermaids!

In the showrooms

• Myron’s Cabaret Jazz venue at The Smith Center is still a hot spot. I love the cabaret format having done so many years of it back east.

Frankie Moreno (I adore him) gave a fantastic performance there last week. If you missed it, go to one of his upcoming shows there on April 3 and 17 and May 1 and 15. He is simply superb!

• Jimmy Buffet, a sun icon, will be at The MGM Grand Arena on Oct. 20 and tickets are already on sale. He is a great entertainer, a person with vision, the creator of Margaritaville, and just plain fun! Get yourself to the MGM to see this wonder man.

Huey Lewis and The News will be his opening act. Wow!

• Alice Cooper – The Pearl at The Palms, Aug. 10 – do not miss this great, fabulous rock legend! Another Alice – Alice In Chains – will be there on Sept. 1.

• Tape Face at the Flamingo – another wow! He is a throwback to the days of “The Gong Show” except he comes from “America’s Got Talent.” Does anyone remember The Unknown Comic who wore a brown paper bag over his head? Those were the corny days of the late Chuck Barris and crew – “The Gong Show” – a memory bite.

Getting cultural?

The Seattle Symphony Orchestra – featuring Jeremy Denk, piano, and Ludovic Morlot, music director – will be at the UNLV Performing Arts Center on April 5 in honor of UNLV’s 60th anniversary.

On April 27, the Verba Shadow Theater will perform at UNLV’s Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. These performers from the Ukraine use only their bodies, props and light to entertain you. It sounds amazing.

Do not ever say Monti is just glitter and glam… I like serious music and entertainment, too!

Have a great week.
