Hamilton tops Vegas show list

Where do I begin? Summer season is here, temps are climbing and the town is rocking!

Hamilton opened at The Smith Center and will be there through June 24. This is an amazing show. In addition to being very entertaining it also gives the audience a lesson in the history of our country.

Our fabulous Golden Knights have had a bit of a struggle in the Stanley Cup playoffs and are behind after winning the first game and losing the next two to the Capitals. I do hope they won Game 4 Monday night. This is such a nail biter for me!

I saw my darling Celine again last week. I think I am truly addicted to this phenomenal woman who gives every show her full blast of energy and talent.

Marilyn! The New Musical is terrific! Ruby Lewis is the essential Marilyn Monroe and I adored every minute of this new offering at Paris Las Vegas. Catch it!

Absinthe recently inked a long term deal to remain at Caesars Palace for many years to come. This is an adults-only show with wild, outlandish acts in a theater-in-the-rounding setting.

You don’t want to miss Emmy Award winning comedian Wanda Sykes at Treasure Island on June 29. This is one funny lady!

Sadly, Roseanne will not be appearing any time soon in Las Vegas. I do not understand this woman. She somehow managed to recover from her outright display of disrespect, years ago, for our National Anthem. You’d think she would have learned something from that. Apparently not.

‘Rider’ wows

There is indie film, “The Rider,” that I caught last week with my friend Lu, who really knows her genres. This movie was a definite wow! It is a documentary of how a Native American rodeo competitor loses his career in his early twenties due to a life changing accident in the ring and how he finds purpose for his life again.

The portrayals of the real characters by themselves are amazing. This leading man will become a star! Another incredible performance was by the man who communicated via sign language. He met our hero in rehabilitation therapy. Their friendship is what true love of your fellow man means.

As we were leaving the theater I bumped into comedian/entertainer/singer Dennis Blair and his lovely wife. If you recall, Dennis used to be the opening act for the late George Carlin and had his own room here in town. I hope to see him performing here again very soon; it is time for a real resurgence of comedy!

Coming up locally

The talented Frankie Moreno will be at South Point on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9.

Boulder Blues – The Andy T Band featuring Alabama Mike and Anson Funderburgh will be at Boulder Station’s Railhead on July 5.

Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters will be at Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Resort on July 13. The following night, July 14, the group TLC will perform at The Sandbar, also at Red Rock.

The Disco Biscuits (cute name!) are slated to play the Brooklyn Bowl at The Linq, Nov. 1-3.

If you were a fan of hard rock music, get tickets early for Blue Oyster Cult which will be heading to Green Valley Ranch on Aug. 31 – Labor Day weekend!

Happy unofficial start to a fabulous summer of 2018!
