Finding Shlesinger as a female Rickles

Jul 17, 2018 3:00 AM

Iliza Shlesinger – the great get-me-laughing comedian who deals with issues that have gone viral – is funnier than ever. Her outrageous frankness about visitors who come to town is unbelievable! Whenever a comedian uses the audience as a target – like the late Don Rickles did – there is always cause for laughing until you are almost unconscious.

This lady has the “it” factor. And, she has a Netflix special, her fourth, coming out July 24. It’s called “Elder Millennial” and deals with life at age 35 (Oh my, so young!). If you missed her recent show at The Mirage, please, give yourself a much needed hoot and watch her special.

Hail, Pastrana!

OMG!! Did you see Travis Pastrana’s absolutely amazing performance at Caesars Palace?! He matched Evel Kneivel’s record and went further by not having an accident during his splashy jump across the Caesars fountains and across myriad buses and trucks on July 7. A spectacular feat and a Guinness book record.

And for those who can’t get enough of this dare devil type of activity, Travis will be back in the spring next year with the Nitro Circus. This is not a usual circus or a Cirque-type affair. It features dare devils that will awe you with their amazing feats of freestyle motocross and BMX.

I, for one, cannot wait to see it – at Bally’s Theater – Spring 2019. Stay tuned for more info.

Hermits roll on

The British pop group Herman’s Hermits, starring Peter Noone, will be transporting guests back to the time of classic rock and pop sounds at South Point this Friday through Sunday, July 20-22.

I can hear those classics now – “I’m Into Something Good,” “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “Can You Hear My Heartbeat,” “Just A Little Bit Better” and more. What a fun, upbeat show that will be.

And, as always, South Point offers great shows at reasonable prices. Tickets start at just $40.

Underground rocks

If you’re looking for something different, check out The Underground Lounge at Hooters on Tropicana Avenue, just east of the Strip.

Free karaoke on Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week gives you a chance to show off your talents and have some fun. And when you are done performing you’ll get a free shot to calm your jangled nerves.

On Friday, July 20 and 27, you might want to participate in the in-house pub crawl that begins at The Porch at 7 p.m. then moves to The Underground at 9. It’s sure to get you prepared for your karaoke appearance.

Hip to Playboi

Breakout hip-hop artist Playboi Carti, who recently released his new album “Die Lit,” will be performing at The Joint at the Hard Rock on Sunday, July 29. This 22-year-old rapper from Atlanta has a very different style but is a rising star in the hip-hop world.

And if his musical career falters he should be able to make a living in the fashion world as he has had features in “Vogue,” “GQ” and “W Magazine”.

Symphony by the Lake

Do not forget Lake Las Vegas as a destination during the summer. Recently, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra played there for crowds gathered to also see the Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Toto – not Dorothy’s dog from The Wizard of Oz but the band – will be at the Sunset Station on August 31. Get your tix now as this will be a Labor Day Weekend sell-out.

Manilow is going strong at the Westgate and will continue to delight audiences until July 28. He will return the Paradise Road casino Sept. 27.

Westgate is now an all-inclusive resort/hotel/casino that is returning to the old days when you never had to leave its grounds. They offer great food, music and shows, a fabulous sportsbook and poker room, top of the line slot play and great hotel amenities.

At the cinema

I saw “Whitney,” the documentary on the life of the late Whitney Houston, at the Regal Village Square last week. It is simply incredible how the downfall of her life was not completely intervened by her family. They are so sad.

But losing Whitney and then her only child, Bobbi, a year later, was a strong statement against the illegal use of dangerous substances. Only a fool will play with bad drugs.

This film can open your eyes and should be seen.

Have a great week.

Monti and Zozo, the wonder dog!
