Drai’s – another accolade for the king of nightlife in Las Vegas.
I call him the king because in royal lineage Victor Drai was the first to sit and remain on the throne of nightlife hierarchy lineage. It was 20 years ago that he took the old McDonald’s in the basement of the Barbary Coast, then owned by Michael Gaughan, and transformed it into a sensational dining palace and after hours club!
There were leopard and animal prints galore on the banquettes and sofas. The heady feel of glamour was reeking in this palace. You had to take a special elevator down to Drai’s to reach it. Reservations were required most times. You were treated with kid gloves. It was a home away from home – a special place at a special time in Las Vegas’ history.
It was 1997 that Victor Drai took Vegas by storm, bringing in loyal patrons and new celebrities. Over the years his wisdom, quality of service, and innovations expanded. When the Barbary Coast became Bill’s Gambling Hall & Saloon, Drai’s remained.
The Cromwell opened and Victor took Drai’s to new heights – the roof – and started up Drai’s After Dark. To this day Victor reigns as the king of night life in Las Vegas. Many have tried to usurp his throne, but he will forever be the man who made nightclubs what they are today in Vegas.
He was presented with the key to the Strip. Fitting as he really turned the key into the nightlife that has engulfed Las Vegas! Drai was a visionary and deserves our thanks.
Adam Lambert at T-Mobile Arena reviving the rock legend Queen. Heck, I thought I was the Queen! Just joking.
Seriously, Lambert was a perfect fit for the group, exalting the crowds in taking on a vacancy left by the late Freddie Mercury and turning the group on its former speed of light performance! Wow! Adam was sensational with the crowd rocking and on their Queen feet!
Lambert to Lamb
At Paymons on West Sahara – near Cimarron – please, try the Lamb Burger! I had it prior to my surgery and was divinely devastated and sated by its great taste and portion size. Unbelievable – a full half pound of delight served with seasoned Athens style fries.
Also, be sure to try their Curry style chicken – the Basmati rice served with it is incredible as well. The pita bread is always fresh and the service is incomparable! It is a respite from the heat and bustle that goes on at this time of year!
A while back I saw a robotic android bartender in a film – a futuristic film. Well, the future is here now. The imaginary has become reality! At The Tipsy Robot inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood you are served by a robot! Basically, making a 33 station bar run by robots. This divine idea brought to reality was conceived by Rino Armeni. This is the first on land in the world!
With fireworks a tiny spark can cause a major fire. We are scorched now. Many palms need trimming and there is a heavy danger potential. Also, children should not be permitted, even under adult supervision, to light or play with fireworks.
The sale and possession of fireworks, except to go and see professional displays, should be banned in our region. Over the years, I have seen hospitalizations, permanent injuries, and homes burnt to the ground for a thrill of the “blast” – it is not worth it. I pray my readers take caution this July Fourth and do their celebrating in a safe fashion.
It was a red, white and blue glorious USA Fourth of July weekend! The annual Summerlin Fourth of July parade is going on Tuesday. As always, it will not disappoint – and it even has special jitneys to transport from start to finish so there is no backup of vehicles! Fun will be had by all!
I also send my prayers to the victims of the Brian Head fires in neighboring Utah. Many locals have summer retreats there. I pray you and yours are safe and can enjoy the Fourth.
I underwent surgery earlier in the week. My lifelong buddy, Lu, took me to the surgery center, waited and checked on my progress. Friendship is something money cannot buy. I shall be back to the old Rock within a week.
Hopefully, Rev Monti will be back stronger than ever next week.
