Bellagio knows how to bring in holidays

December 12, 2017 3:02 AM

My first stop of the season is always the Bellagio. Every year they top themselves with the most creative designs, made of all natural materials, to create a holiday winter wonderland. This year is no exception.

The larger-than-life nutcrackers, the glorious adorned and decorated tree, the humongous snowflakes suspended from the top of the sky-lighted conservatory all make it the perfect place for photo ops and memories of what creativity and beauty we have in the artistry of Las Vegas artisans and those who spend nearly a year preparing for this event.

It is like stepping off a Santa sleigh and into a different world. I see people from all over the globe remarking and taking pictures (most with cell phones) to capture their special adventure in Las Vegas. This is a free attraction so, please, do not let the season pass by without venturing into this special winter world.

Exquisite Giada

Well, well, the lady of restaurant fame and a beauty in her own right Giada De Laurentiis, who found her calling as a restaurant creator and chef at Giada at The Cromwell, is our newest Woman of The Year. She will be bestowed with the title at the Annual Black and White Ball on Jan. 27. The Ball, to be held at Wynn Las Vegas, is Nevada Ballet Theater’s biggest fundraiser.

Giada is an exquisite woman, a philanthropist, a chef par excellence, winner of a Daytime Emmy Award for her Food Network show in 2014, and also the grand-daughter of Dino De Laurentiis, who made great Italian films with Federico Fellini. Her newest venture, an eatery called Pronto, will open its door at Caesars Palace in early 2018.

Las Vegas is her second home and she’s a welcome fixture on our celebrity laden scene. Congrats, Giada!

Bootlegger, baby!

Hey, hey, Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns are going to blow ‘em away at The Bootlegger with an early curtain of 7:30 p.m. Many people say that is too early, but for many of us locals 7:30 is prime, and dinner at The Bootlegger before or after works well. Great sounds – great food – great Nevada history in this fabulous restaurant/cabaret.

Hail Liza

The Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center does it all – Broadway, classical, pop, dance, comedy, jazz. It is not a stodgy old place of entertainment. Case in point, Liza Minnelli, who has not been on the boards in Vegas for a while, will be appearing at Smith Center. I adore Liza, she was always the alternative crowd’s fair lady, and will appear with the great pianist Michael Feinstein on March 30. This one show I cannot wait to see. Hail, Liza!

Mirage hit

I took in Matt Goss’ new show at The Mirage and it was terrific.

He has been at so many different venues in town but he is a talent. My crew and I were taken aback by his range of tunes from classics, to his own, to whatever “hangs” with Matt. I really, really like this classy man. He will be there Dec. 28-30.

Gordie Brown is wowing them at his new home, Hooters Casino. He is an entertainer’s entertainer and gives an audience a full array of his many talents. I have followed him for a long time and still will wander to wherever he may go.

CHER, I truly cherish her. She is great, sings beautifully – and those costumes – the best in the business. She will be at Park Theater at Monte Carlo beginning Jan. 17. By the way, Monte Carlo is renovating and will soon be renamed The Park MGM, which is a great moniker.

Mariah Carey in all her beauty and talent will be at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning Dec. 14 with her “All I Want for Christmas is You” show. Catch this fabulous butterfly.

In January you can catch Jeff Foxworthy, a great comedian and a best selling author, too, at The Venetian on Jan. 24 and 25. His “you might be a redneck” one-liners are priceless.

My minute

Earlier this month I gave a cabaret concert at Evel Pie downtown and it was a smashing success. The crowds were clamoring for more. I was so happy to be on the stage once again.

So, Mr. Myron Martin (president/CEO of Smith Center), when will you have the Disco Queen/King himself (aka Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes, “Saturday Night Fever” DJ icon) as guest at your cabaret?

The Monti Minute is almost in its final cut for viewing. The time has come, Monti will rock your holidays. Go and get CD’s of Get Dancin’ and I Wanna Dance Wit Choo, two albums that are hot again.

I love the holiday season and I love Vegas during the holidays. It may not be snow but the glitter and feathers make up the festivities.

Season’s Greetings.
