30 Minutes With Road Runner Rush

Road Runner Rush LuckyBird Casino Gameplay Screenshot

Road Runner Rush immediately caught my attention with its cute thumbnail, featuring a small bird (presumably a road runner, though it looks more like a chicken to me) in overalls and a construction hat. I’m a sucker for cutesy anthropomorphic animals, so I was already hooked.

Road Runner Rush continued to enthrall me with its gameplay. The Road Runner starts on a sidewalk on the left side of the screen. He must start to cross the street while watching out for oncoming cars. Each lane of the street has a multiplier attached. You can adjust the game’s volatility with the “Risk” drop-down menu, selecting from Easy, Medium, Hard, and Hardcore. Easy has the lowest multipliers but higher chances of the Road Runner making it further along the street. Hardcore has high multiples by lower chances of making it far.

Once I selected my difficulty (I settled neatly into the Medium level based on my personal gameplay preferences), I clicked “Play.” From there, I could click ‘Go” to jump the Road Runner into the next lane. On each successful jump, a barrier appeared to block cars from hitting the Road Runner. I could then choose between cashing out (with winnings multiplied according to the highest multiplier I achieved) or “Go” again to jump to the next lane.

Of course, each jump also carried the risk of being run over and losing everything, like any other Crash style game. The ability to take a breath and choose whether to continue without the stress of a potential loss while thinking was a nice departure from other Crash games where the action plays out in real time.

Road Runner Rush Special Features

Road Runner Rush offers a few cool subversions of the typical Crash game format. The turn-based gameplay is one of them. You can theoretically sit in a lane for minutes before selecting whether to cash out or move on. Another is the ability to select your volatility from the “Risk” menu.

Other features include a streak counter, which shows you how many times you’ve jumped lanes without getting run over. This carries over between games, too, so you can count how many successes you’ve had. Finally, you can select options in the “Auto” menu to play multiple game sessions in a row based on options you choose, like the number of lanes you wish to jump, win limit, loss limit, and more.
