When Will BetMGM Ohio Launch?
BetMGM is expected to launch in Ohio once sports betting goes live in the state on January 1, 2023. When the first application window opened on June 15, 2022, BetMGM and PointsBet were the first online operators to apply for a mobile management service provider licenses, according to the Ohio Casino Control Commission. BetMGM also applied for a retail license and already has a presence in the state through MGM Northfield Park.
In July, BetMGM and Major League Baseball announced a multi-year agreement for BetMGM to continue to be an official sports betting partner of MLB. The Cincinnati Reds have a partnership with BetMGM for its retail sportsbook, and Underdog Sports Wagering LLC will be the team’s mobile service provider.
MGM Northfield Park, with BetMGM as its partner, has been conditionally approved for both a Type A and Type B sports betting license by the OCCC. The Cincinnati Reds were also approved for both a Type A and Type B license with BetMGM as its management services provider. Type A licenses include mobile and online sports betting apps. Type B licenses include retail sports betting establishments.
BetMGM recently announced a partnership with NBC Sports for the 2022 NFL season highlighted by weekly integrations on Football Night in America (FNIA) and content across other NBC Sports platforms. Now available in 24 markets across North America, BetMGM offers a world-class loyalty program providing customers the opportunity to earn points with every wager placed. It’s most recent launch came in September 2022 when BetMGM went live in Kansas.
Ohio Sports Betting Updates
When Ohio’s Casino Control Commission announced in early September it had approved over 300 licenses, the Cincinnati Reds with BetMGM as its partner were among the first to gain a Type A and Type B license. Applicants have until Oct. 5 to submit required materials about the employees and leadership personnel or they will be disqualified from being guaranteed a license in time for the new year.
Ohio officially legalized sports betting when Gov. Mike DeWine signed such legislation into law on Dec. 22, 2021, and fans eagerly await the industry’s launch on January 1, 2023 in the Buckeye State. DeWine signed the legislation after it received massive support from Ohio lawmakers, as both chambers overwhelmingly approved it.
One major positive for Ohio bettors is that they will be able to wager on collegiate sports once everything launches. Not all states allow betting on college sports, so getting to do so in Ohio is a win for local bettors. With Ohio State running the show and tons of college sports fans in the area, it’s just another reason for Ohioans to get excited about the upcoming launch of in-state sports gambling.

BetMGM Ohio Location
Since sports betting has been legalized but not yet implemented in Ohio, there is no current BetMGM sportsbook location there. However, the Cincinnati Reds have a partnership with BetMGM for its retail sportsbook and MGM Northfield Park is MGM’s racino location in Ohio and will likely host sports betting when it launches.
Located at 10777 Northfield Rd, Northfield, MGM Northfield Park offers more than 2,300 gaming devices, a modern sports bar dubbed the Trackside Lounge, and a race track right on its property that conducts hundreds of harness racing events each year. It helped Ohio’s multiple betting venues bring in a record combined $171.2 million in January 2022, generating $20.2 million itself, according to cleveland.com, so it’s already proven its worth as a gambling hotspot in the state.
The venue has a history rooted in racing. It was originally built in 1934 with another name and was an established car racing venue before eventually transitioning to horse racing. It’s become a premier spot for both bettors and horse racing fanatics to put some money down, relax in a comfortable environment and eat and drink delicious food and beverages.
With Ohio sports betting slated to go live on New Year’s Day 2023 at 12:01 a.m. ET, MGM Northfield Park could expand its reach and become even more of a wagering powerhouse in the state.
