Bally Bet went live on Monday to debut in the Maryland sports betting market. With Monday’s launch, the well-known casino brand now offers online sports betting in nine states.
Bally’s Interactive Maryland LLC completed a controlled demonstration of Bally Bet Sportsbook for the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) on July 25.
Commission members determined that Bally Bet Maryland “complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly” during a live betting exercise with customers and MLGCC staff.
Bally’s will soon operate 16 retail casinos in 11 states in addition to Bally Bet Sportsbook. The company is working on a mall location in State College, PA, in addition to a massive casino project in Chicago.
Other states with the Bally Bet app are:
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Massachusetts
- Indiana
- Iowa
- New York
- Ohio
- Virginia
The MLGCC may also have new Bally’s owners to work with. The company announced a merger with Standard General on July 25, 2024. Standard General operates “Queen” branded casinos in the Midwest.
As for online offerings, Bally Bet isn’t the only new Maryland arrival.
LetsBetMD, which has headquarters in Lanham, MD, formed a partnership with the Veterans Services Corporation to enter the Maryland sports betting market on July 1, 2024. The UK company Bee-Fee provides the sports betting platform for LetsBetMD.
Betfred Leaves Maryland Sports Betting Market
Betfred closed its retail sportsbook on June 30, and the company is days away from shutting down its online sports betting app in the Old Line State as well. Maryland’s Betfred customers have until July 31, 2024, to log in and close out their accounts at the website.
The company will mail out any remaining account balances within 30 days, so customers who miss the deadline still get their money. Just make sure Betfred has a current address on file.
SuperBook Sports Closes its MD Sports Betting Run
SuperBook Sports included Maryland in the eight-state retreat it announced on July 19. The company will mostly focus on its famed Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook and the Westgate SuperBook mobile app in Nevada instead.
A report in the Baltimore Sun suggests the SuperBook lounge at Camden Yards will remain open for in-person bets through at least the end of the 2024 season. The Baltimore Orioles and SuperBook Sports have a long-term partnership in Maryland.
Maryland sports betting ended the budget year with more than $5.37 billion in bets between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. The sports betting volume was up 85.9% compared to the previous fiscal year, and the transactions generated $60.3 million in FY24 taxes.
Once Betfred and SuperBook Sports close out accounts, Maryland will have 11 sportsbooks ranging from national brands to state-only betting options:
- Bally Bet Sportsbook
- BetMGM Sportsbook
- BetPARX Sportsbook
- BetRivers Sportsbook
- Caesars Sportsbook
- Crab Sports Maryland
- DraftKings Sportsbook
- ESPN Bet Sportsbook
- Fanatics Sportsbook
- FanDuel Sportsbook
- LetsBetMD Sportsbook
