Wilson Goes Back to Seattle in Different Uniform
Who says you can’t go home again? Former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson returns to Seattle on Monday night to face his former team.
Wilson was traded to the Broncos in the offseason, ending a decade as the Seahawks starter. He won 104 games in the gaudy colors of the Seahawks, and was a Super Bowl champion in 2014. He holds Seattle franchise records for completions, yards, touchdown passes, and QB rating. One day, he will slip on a yellow jacket as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. When he does, Seattle fans can celebrate the memories of “DangeRuss,” but for now, he’s the enemy.
The Broncos are -6.5 on oddsboards on the road against the Seahawks, who suffered their first losing season since 2011 last year. Denver has flipped many key spots on its roster and hopes Wilson improves an offense that ranked 23rd in the NFL last season.
You can’t win in pro football without an elite quarterback. Let’s do some math:
- Wilson < Teddy Bridgewater.
- New head coach Nathaniel Hackett is more innovative than the departed Vic Fangio.
The Broncos have many weapons on the offensive side to assist Wilson: Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Javonte Williams, and Melvin Gordon III, to name the most prominent.
The Seahawks will start three rookies, two on the offensive line and one in the secondary. Seattle still has the bouncy, never-stop-pacing energy of Pete Carroll on the sideline, but this is an organization in transition. The “Doom” days are in the past, and Monday Night Football could just be gloom for the Seahawks, at the hands of a familiar Pro Bowl quarterback.
