The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians will become the fourth tribe to offer legal sports betting in Wisconsin on Wednesday after announcing a partnership with DraftKings.

The Lake of the Torches Resort Casino — pending licensure and regulatory approval — will offer DraftKings betting via kiosks and over-counter for adults 21 and older. The sportsbook will be housed in Woody’s Bar & Grill, which according to a release “features ample sports viewing options with a dozen televisions, a live sports ticker, a full bar, great gameday food selections, and more.”

DraftKings Sportsbook mobile and retail sports betting will be available in 28 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and Ontario, Canada once the first bets are placed, just a week before the lucrative NFL sports betting season begins.

“DraftKings has established a great relationship with the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, and we can’t wait to bring the DraftKings Sportsbook brand to Wisconsin,” Michael Kibort, DraftKings’ vice president of retail sportsbooks said in a release. He added:

“Providing a best-in-class customer experience has always been a top priority for our company and the opportunity to deliver that experience to customers in yet another state is a proud moment for DraftKings.”

Lake of the Torches Resort Casino chief executive officer Bill Guelcher said his goal is to “implement sports betting operations with a strong brand recognition and extremely high-quality product performance, and we’re honored to collaborate with DraftKings as an industry leader.”

Wisconsin Sports Betting Options Increase

The Lac du Flambeau Band was granted the right to offer retail sports betting on April 9 with an update to the Federal Register that acknowledged the approval of compact amendments between the tribe and the State of Wisconsin.

The approved amendment:

  • Permits the Tribe to engage in event wagering
  • Adds the Tribe’s minimum internal control standards for sports betting, including rules governing events wagering, and
  • Makes technical changes to update and correct various provisions of the compact.

Lake of the Torches becomes the seventh casino to offer retail sports betting in Wisconsin, joining the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee, three St. Croix venues, Oneida Sportsbook, and the Oneida Casino West Mason in Green Bay. The Oneida tribe also offers betting at several travel centers on its land. Statewide mobile sports betting is not legal in Wisconsin, but the Oneida tribe utilizes an app available only on its tribal property.

DraftKings currently has no plan for an app at Lake of the Torches.
